Ford Raises $1 Billion In Bond Sale

Ford Motor’s finance unit was able to raise $1 billion during the first sale of benchmark 10-year bonds.

The auto manufacturing division of Ford had the best September for small car sales in 10 years time and a 73% increase over September of 2011.  Ford believes this is due to the rising and sporadic costs of gasoline and that customers have become more conscious of their fuel consumption.

“Fuel economy remains one of the most important features customers want most today,” Ken Czubay, Ford vice president for US marketing, told media.

 

The F-Series pickup truck continues as Ford’s best-selling vehicle in the U.S., selling over 55K units during September.  The Ford Escape also had a good month with a sales increase of 14% and creating a record for September sales with 23,148 units sold in the U.S.  Utility vehicles in general saw an 8.7% percent sales increase, including Escape, Explorer and Edge models.

Ford To Hire Another 1,200 Employees

The campaign for the brand new Ford Fusion is off to such a great start that Ford is expecting massive numbers in sales for this sedan, packed with all of Ford’s new and innovative driver-assistance features. The auto manufacturer will invest $555 million into their Detroit manufacturing plant, which also makes the Ford Mustang. The investment money will mostly go towards new equipment in order to double their output and produce the Fusion.

In order to produce the amount of Fusions that Ford has in mind, they will be adding another 1,200 employees to work in the Detroit plant, producing the new small sedan. Previously, the Fusions were only made at Ford’s plant in Mexico, but now that the small car segment is growing at such a rapid pace, and labor contracts have lowered the U.S. costs, Ford is bringing more of the production to its home base in Michigan.

Ford Enters Heavy Truck Arena

A Chinese corporation which is 30% owned by the Ford Motor Co., recently acquired a large heavy truck company, bringing Ford into the world’s largest heavy-truck arena.  Though Ford didn’t release the financial terms of the acquisition, the heavy truck parent company showed a selling price of $42 million.

No other country in the world sells as many heavy trucks as China does.  Last year, almost one million heavy trucks were sold in China, which is more than North America, South America and Europe combined.  Though the sales of heavy trucks seem to be slowing, Ford is certain the Chinese economy will pick back up and the investment will be sound.

“A strong heavy-truck operation like Taiyuan will complement Ford’s existing passenger car and light commercial vehicle operations here in the world’s largest and fastest-growing vehicle market,” Dave Schoch, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China, told media.

Ford Continues Revamped Certified Pre-Owned Program

Ford Fusion Stock Racer Approved

Ford has happily announced NASCAR’s approval of their 2013 Ford Fusion racer.  The Fusion race car passed final aerodynamic tests, held on July 18th and will make its 2013 racing debut at the Daytona International Speedway in February of next year.  For 2013, Both Ford and NASCAR agreed that for the production model races, the car should be designed to  look more like the passenger versions.

“We commend the manufacturers and our team at the R&D center on all the hard work they’ve put into this new car,” Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition, told media. “With all the designs and surface areas of the car now approved, manufacturers can now move forward with building the components needed to outfit their cars. The wind tunnel testing we’ve had with the manufacturers over the past several months has given us the timely and necessary data we needed to come to this confirmation. We believe the new car is going to be a milestone opportunity for our sport, one that our fans will embrace.”

Ford Kicks Off 2013 Fusion Campaign

Tuesday evening saw the first broadcast of the new Ford Fusion campaign “Random Acts of Fusion”.  Introducing the campaign to the country are comedian Joel McHale and television/radio personality Ryan Seacrest.  Another popular comedian, Kat Micucci, also joins their ranks for other commercials and events to promote this large Ford Fusion giveaway.

For those of you that don’t know, the “Random Acts of Fusion” campaign includes 100 drivers being documented doing interesting and fun things inside 100 brand new 2013 Ford Fusions.  Anyone can sign up to be apart of the fun.

“The new Fusion is a transformational vehicle and we wanted to give consumers the opportunity to be part of this transformation through the unexpected experiences and entertainment provided by Random Acts of Fusion,” Crystal Worthem, manager for Ford Brand Content & Alliances, told media. “Over the next few months, we are giving fans a never-been-done-before experience by combining social media, entertainment and unexpected events that will allow them to interact with Fusion all across the country.”

Ford Surpasses EcoBoost Goal

Ford’s EcoBoost are a revelation in the automotive industry.  An industry that has no mercy on auto manufacturers who cannot come with unique and innovative technology year after year.  With the EcoBoost engine, Ford has not only created a vehicle with superb fuel-efficiency and lower emission ratings, they’ve also delivered on the performance Ford consumers expect.

To help with these numbers are the two most recent additions to the EcoBoost family.  The first is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine made for the Taurus, and the other is a 1.0 liter 3-cylinger engine which we will see in the Focus or Fiesta beginning next year.  By the year 2013, Ford will deliver over 1 and a half million turbocharged EcoBoost engines.  This amount surpasses their goal by 100,000 units, thrilling them beyond compare.

Another big change for Ford is the fact that they are consolidating the vehicle platforms from 22 separate ones, to only 10, making desirable changes to each family by the year 2017.

Ford Calls for Greener and Smarter Technologies

During today’s Mackinac Policy Conference, a representative from the Ford Motor Company requested policy reform in order to better foster innovation which he believes is critical in ensuring the company’s competitiveness and creating more high-tech jobs.  Ford told delegates that the trends emerging in manufacturing, green technology and mobility demonstrate a great opportunity to create a dynamic, diverse and growing economy.

“While Michigan is the home of the auto industry, the trends affecting our industry offer a great opportunity to make it the home of a variety of other industries as well,” said Bill Ford. “We are heading in the right direction to grow Michigan by putting the right policies in place and investing in Michigan’s future. We want this technology to become a core competency for us in the 21st century. And we are building the expertise to do that right here in our home state.”

The 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

The highly anticipated 2013 Ford Fusion is ready to please a large array of consumers with its multiple engines: regular gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. Unfortunately, the plug-in hybrid, or Energi, won’t be available at this year’s launch as the hybrid model will.

Ford is expecting 2013 Fusion Hybrid to become a class-leader in the fuel efficiency department. Predictions for MPG are 47 in the city and 44 MPG on the highway.  the new Fusion’s fuel economy stands to outperform those of both the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid and the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by anywhere from 4-12 MPG.

The combined output from the new Fusion Hybrid’s 2-liter 4-cylinder engine and the electric motor will be around 180 horsepower, which isn’t shabby for such a large amount of MPG.  Even more desirable is the voice-activated SYNC with MyFord connectivity with two customizable LCD screens in the dash.  Prices for they new Fusion Hybrid have not been officially released yet, but experts expect it to start around $25K.

Ford Employees Begin Inventions

Ford‘s newes TechShop opened in Detroit last week on it’s mission to open more throughout the US. TechShop is a workshop meant to spark creativity and grow Detroit’s creative community. Ford’s Employee Patent Incentive Award program provides free TechShop memberships to its employees submitting inventions. It is also open to non-Ford employees for a membership fee.  It’s estimated that about 2,000 incentive memberships will be provided to Ford employees this year and that invention submissions are up over 30 percent versus last year.

Ford employees are using TechShop as an outlet for creativity and experimentation, enabling them to easily and quickly build prototypes and bring their ideas to life. Some projects are for solving needs outside of the office, such as a creating a log debarking attachment for a chainsaw and others can help improve the work they do for Ford like designing more comfortable car seats.” Bill Coughlin, CEO of Ford Global Technologies, told media.
