The last thing you’d expect to see zooming through Bemidji, Minn. at the Ojibwe Forests Rally is a 2010 Ford Mustang, or any Mustang for that matter. J.B. Niday, managing director of Rally America, had not yet experienced a 2010 Mustang at any of his Rally America competitions, but that was about to change.

The Queen made a wish and Ford Motor Company delivered. Twenty-year-old NASCAR phenom Colin Braun brought award-winning musician and actress Queen Latifah a 2010 Ford Mustang and schooled her in how to drive the iconic muscle car like a pro. Latifah, already a proud owner of a ’65 Mustang, wished to drive the car in the extended music video for her new song “Fast Cars.”

Ford Motor Company created a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle, the Mustang AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll,” to be sold at auction during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) 2009 AirVenture Oshkosh, the world’s greatest aviation celebration. Ford is the exclusive automotive partner with EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and all of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Young Eagles organization. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will be held from July 27 to Aug. 2 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Despite extolling their many carnal virtues for years, we know that there’s still a sizable group of enthusiasts who have never managed to wrap their heads around the idea of owning a pony car. We’ve heard all the excuses before, from complaints about refinement, Jurassic underpinnings and muscle-straining inputs to shopworn stereotypes about the people who drive them. Thing is, if we’re being honest, many of these same notions have troubled us as well – even those of us who have triumphed over our prejudices and actually bought one of the things.
