2013 Ford Fusion Designed To Turn Heads

The new 2013 Ford Fusion is one of the most talked about sedan releases of the past couple of years.  Ford has finally given free reign to younger designers who have created a fun-to-drive and practical sedan for the tech- and performance-minded.  The excellent fuel economy doesn’t hurt, either.

“There was a general unmet need for more design. People wanted different silhouettes, different rooflines — that’s what customer research told us,” Jim Farley, Ford’s chief of marketing, said of Ford’s market research while explaining where the inspiration for innovative designs came from.

Ford gave the public exactly what they were looking for.  A car packed with technology and convenience features with a sexy design and upgraded materials.  The enhanced trims and packages are an excellent perk as they help with the cool factor and amount of luxury even further.  It’s been awhile since car buyers were excited about a midsize sedan.

Ford To Hire Another 1,200 Employees

The campaign for the brand new Ford Fusion is off to such a great start that Ford is expecting massive numbers in sales for this sedan, packed with all of Ford’s new and innovative driver-assistance features. The auto manufacturer will invest $555 million into their Detroit manufacturing plant, which also makes the Ford Mustang. The investment money will mostly go towards new equipment in order to double their output and produce the Fusion.

In order to produce the amount of Fusions that Ford has in mind, they will be adding another 1,200 employees to work in the Detroit plant, producing the new small sedan. Previously, the Fusions were only made at Ford’s plant in Mexico, but now that the small car segment is growing at such a rapid pace, and labor contracts have lowered the U.S. costs, Ford is bringing more of the production to its home base in Michigan.

Ford Fusion Stock Racer Approved

Ford has happily announced NASCAR’s approval of their 2013 Ford Fusion racer.  The Fusion race car passed final aerodynamic tests, held on July 18th and will make its 2013 racing debut at the Daytona International Speedway in February of next year.  For 2013, Both Ford and NASCAR agreed that for the production model races, the car should be designed to  look more like the passenger versions.

“We commend the manufacturers and our team at the R&D center on all the hard work they’ve put into this new car,” Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition, told media. “With all the designs and surface areas of the car now approved, manufacturers can now move forward with building the components needed to outfit their cars. The wind tunnel testing we’ve had with the manufacturers over the past several months has given us the timely and necessary data we needed to come to this confirmation. We believe the new car is going to be a milestone opportunity for our sport, one that our fans will embrace.”

The 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid

The highly anticipated 2013 Ford Fusion is ready to please a large array of consumers with its multiple engines: regular gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. Unfortunately, the plug-in hybrid, or Energi, won’t be available at this year’s launch as the hybrid model will.

Ford is expecting 2013 Fusion Hybrid to become a class-leader in the fuel efficiency department. Predictions for MPG are 47 in the city and 44 MPG on the highway.  the new Fusion’s fuel economy stands to outperform those of both the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid and the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by anywhere from 4-12 MPG.

The combined output from the new Fusion Hybrid’s 2-liter 4-cylinder engine and the electric motor will be around 180 horsepower, which isn’t shabby for such a large amount of MPG.  Even more desirable is the voice-activated SYNC with MyFord connectivity with two customizable LCD screens in the dash.  Prices for they new Fusion Hybrid have not been officially released yet, but experts expect it to start around $25K.

Driver-Assist Tehcnologies in the 2013 Ford Fusion

The new Ford Fusions have pleasantly surprised automotive media with their sleeker and attractive exterior stylings, but that’s not all the Fusion has going for it.  One area the car truly excels in is Driver Assist technology as the Fusion comes with an array of systems to make driving a breeze.

Drive Assist features include Lane-Keeping System with Driver Alert, adaptive cruise control and collision warning, and active park assist.  The Lane-Keeping System uses a forward-facing camera that can scan the road surface for lane markings so that if you cross ta line, it vibrates the steering wheel to grab your attention.

The adaptive cruse control uses a radar sensor that measures the distance and speed to the vehicle ahead and adjusts yours accordingly.  Park Assist utilizes electric power-assisted steering and ultrasonic sensors to help you parallel park.

Then there’s Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert which uses radar senses to monitor the spaces beside and behind the vehicle.

Ford Gives Fusion Buyers More In Customized Choices

Ford has been looking for a way to gain the competitive edge with the new 2013 Ford Fusion, and decided the best way to do it is to give their customers more choices in their vehicle.  Who says every vehicle has to have the same concept or interior lighting?  Ford is thinking innovatively, as usual, giving their customers things they’d never thought to ask for.  Way to go, Ford.

Among other things, 2013 Ford Fusion buyers will get to choose what color LED lights don the interior of the new car.  The Ice Blue color has ben chosen as the signature color, but owners will get to choose from seven different colors and even change the color intensity.  The other colors are blue, purple, orange, red, white and green.

Michael Arbuagh, Chief Interior Designer for Ford says of the lighting color choice, “Consumers are usually surprised by the variety and enjoy the ability to choose.  I believe it’s a competitive advantage.”
