2013 Ford Fusion Designed To Turn Heads

The new 2013 Ford Fusion is one of the most talked about sedan releases of the past couple of years.  Ford has finally given free reign to younger designers who have created a fun-to-drive and practical sedan for the tech- and performance-minded.  The excellent fuel economy doesn’t hurt, either.

“There was a general unmet need for more design. People wanted different silhouettes, different rooflines — that’s what customer research told us,” Jim Farley, Ford’s chief of marketing, said of Ford’s market research while explaining where the inspiration for innovative designs came from.

Ford gave the public exactly what they were looking for.  A car packed with technology and convenience features with a sexy design and upgraded materials.  The enhanced trims and packages are an excellent perk as they help with the cool factor and amount of luxury even further.  It’s been awhile since car buyers were excited about a midsize sedan.

Ford To Hire Another 1,200 Employees

The campaign for the brand new Ford Fusion is off to such a great start that Ford is expecting massive numbers in sales for this sedan, packed with all of Ford’s new and innovative driver-assistance features. The auto manufacturer will invest $555 million into their Detroit manufacturing plant, which also makes the Ford Mustang. The investment money will mostly go towards new equipment in order to double their output and produce the Fusion.

In order to produce the amount of Fusions that Ford has in mind, they will be adding another 1,200 employees to work in the Detroit plant, producing the new small sedan. Previously, the Fusions were only made at Ford’s plant in Mexico, but now that the small car segment is growing at such a rapid pace, and labor contracts have lowered the U.S. costs, Ford is bringing more of the production to its home base in Michigan.

Ford Focus Is World’s Best-Selling Car

According to the most recent reports from the Ford Motor Co., the Ford Focus is the best-selling car in the world. The reports show 489,616 units being sold in the first half of the year, beating out the second place car by 27,000 units. There is still another half of the year to be reported on, so it’s not a certain title…yet.

Ford was able to accomplish this feat by revamping the Focus and making it superior to all other cars in it’s class, including the Corolla. They are now selling the Focus in over 100 countries throughout the world, raising sales by 31% for the first six months of 2012 over the same time in 2011.

The new Ford Focus comes in several trims and even has an electric version. The base model starts at $16,200 and has an EPA certified rating of 36 MPG on the highway. The Focus Electric is rated at 110 MPG equivalent for city driving.

The New High-Performance Explorer Sport

Ford created an entirely new class when it created the Explorer Sport, which goes on sale next month.  It is the only seven-seater, high-performance SUV to have an official EPA rating of 22 MPG on the highway.  The high fuel-efficiency is thanks to Ford’s new EcoBoost engine, which provides 365 horsepower while maintaining the highest MPG around.

“Explorer Sport hits a sweet-spot combination of power, usable torque, 4WD capability, with class-leading fuel efficiency,” Bill Gubing, chief engineer for Explorer, Taurus and Police Interceptor vehicles, told media. “The Explorer Sport EcoBoost engine matches Taurus SHO for output and the Terrain Management System has been specifically calibrated to optimize increased power – regardless of the road or conditions.”

The Explorer Sport also has the SelectShift Automatic transmission, chassis tunnel reinforcements and an electric power-assisted steering rack.  The new Explorer Sport has special Terrain Management System settings which help to increase power and torque on all terrain.

Ford Fusion Stock Racer Approved

Ford has happily announced NASCAR’s approval of their 2013 Ford Fusion racer.  The Fusion race car passed final aerodynamic tests, held on July 18th and will make its 2013 racing debut at the Daytona International Speedway in February of next year.  For 2013, Both Ford and NASCAR agreed that for the production model races, the car should be designed to  look more like the passenger versions.

“We commend the manufacturers and our team at the R&D center on all the hard work they’ve put into this new car,” Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition, told media. “With all the designs and surface areas of the car now approved, manufacturers can now move forward with building the components needed to outfit their cars. The wind tunnel testing we’ve had with the manufacturers over the past several months has given us the timely and necessary data we needed to come to this confirmation. We believe the new car is going to be a milestone opportunity for our sport, one that our fans will embrace.”

2013 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet’s Weekend Debut

Over the weekend, over 130 race cars competed in the American Drag Racing League’s Summer Nationals VIII.  One of these cars was the 2013 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, making its official racing debut.  Only 50 of them have been built, and the one that was raced during the Summer Nationals was taken straight from a Ford Performance showroom.

“It had never been down the track before,” said Drew Skillman, the man who brought the car to the races. “The furthest it has been was from one side of the building to the other. We were just glad to be able to race it here first since it was built right here in Michigan.”

Drew Skillman elected to drive another vehicle in the races and left the debut run of the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet to another.  The driver deemed worthy of the task was Wes Wells, a National Hot Rod Association Pro Stock Motorcycle racer.
