Sound Ford and the Synch WebsiteFord recently launched a new website to show consumers how SYNC is making its users’ lives better. This award-winning system has already been installed in more than 3 million Ford cars and trucks, but Ford believes that’s just the beginning.

The new website was designed to be easier to use, while covering all that SYNC  has to offer.  The new website is intended to be the ultimate resource on the increasingly popular technology for those shopping for a SYNC-equipped Ford car or truck and who want to know more about the technology as well as those who have it already.

“What we’ve tried to do is deliver a simpler and more intuitive way for consumers to understand the benefits of SYNC,” said Cole Buccafurri, Ford Digital Marketing Communications. “It’s delivering contextually relevant information to them at the right time. If they’re an owner and want educational material, it’s right there. If they’re a shopper and just want to know about SYNC, it’s all right there, too.”

On the website, users will find owner experiences by having customers talk about the role SYNC plays in staying in touch with driver assistance, safety and entertainment. The site has videos that give peace of mind to users with a feature that is only activated in the event of am accident in which an airbag is depoyed or if the fuel pump shutoff is activated.

They are continually improving the SYNC experience with the new website.  The new site does a good job of bringing all the information about the SYNC in one intuitive website.

Driver-Assist Tehcnologies in the 2013 Ford Fusion

The new Ford Fusions have pleasantly surprised automotive media with their sleeker and attractive exterior stylings, but that’s not all the Fusion has going for it.  One area the car truly excels in is Driver Assist technology as the Fusion comes with an array of systems to make driving a breeze.

Drive Assist features include Lane-Keeping System with Driver Alert, adaptive cruise control and collision warning, and active park assist.  The Lane-Keeping System uses a forward-facing camera that can scan the road surface for lane markings so that if you cross ta line, it vibrates the steering wheel to grab your attention.

The adaptive cruse control uses a radar sensor that measures the distance and speed to the vehicle ahead and adjusts yours accordingly.  Park Assist utilizes electric power-assisted steering and ultrasonic sensors to help you parallel park.

Then there’s Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert which uses radar senses to monitor the spaces beside and behind the vehicle.

Ford Employees Begin Inventions

Ford‘s newes TechShop opened in Detroit last week on it’s mission to open more throughout the US. TechShop is a workshop meant to spark creativity and grow Detroit’s creative community. Ford’s Employee Patent Incentive Award program provides free TechShop memberships to its employees submitting inventions. It is also open to non-Ford employees for a membership fee.  It’s estimated that about 2,000 incentive memberships will be provided to Ford employees this year and that invention submissions are up over 30 percent versus last year.

Ford employees are using TechShop as an outlet for creativity and experimentation, enabling them to easily and quickly build prototypes and bring their ideas to life. Some projects are for solving needs outside of the office, such as a creating a log debarking attachment for a chainsaw and others can help improve the work they do for Ford like designing more comfortable car seats.” Bill Coughlin, CEO of Ford Global Technologies, told media.

SAE Says Ford Shelby Has the Most Powerful V8 Engine

According to the Society of Automotive Engineers, the vehicle powered by most powerful V8 in production is the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. The 5.8 liter supercharged engine in the high-performance Mustang is not easily missed with its 662HP and 631 lb ft of torque.

Ford doesn’t want consumers thinking the car is a gas guzzler.  They say the revised front fascia and splitter help manage airflow and make the car more aerodynamic, also helping gas mileage.  This is important when you consider the bigger and badder engine from its predecessor’s 550Hp engine.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 is the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its segment and is “the most fuel-efficient car with over 550 horsepower in any segment available in America,” Ford said in a statement. Competitors include the 580-hp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the 470-hp Dodge Challenger SRT8 392.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 will be built at Ford’s Flat Rock, Mich., facility and goes on sale later this year.  For more information or to be the first to get your hands on one, contact Sound Ford.

Ford F-550 Show Truck Comes to the Rescue

In March, a custom-built Ford F-550 Super Duty pickup was making its rounds as a display vehicle in Texas.  The last place is it was seen as “just” a show truck was in Houston during a rodeo.  A week later, multiple tornadoes devastated parts of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and firefighters didn’t know where to turn to for the extra super duty help they needed.

When the tornadoes materialized, the Granbury fire department informed the VP of NewScope Marketing, the company who designed the after market truck, that Arlington’s fire department was looking for outside help. Along with an employee, VP Brad Snyder, with no first-responder experience, drove the truck to the Green Oaks Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, which had sustained significant damage.  He then followed firefighters to Arlington’s hardest-hit neighborhoods to help with search and rescue.

Powered by a diesel engine, the 37,000-pound truck features two thermal-imaging cameras, Doppler radar and a generator strong enough to power a small house, which can be used while the truck is in motion, Mr. Snyder said.  You can see why the vehicle was of such use during the emergency.

Ford Encourages All to ‘Go Further’

The automotive industry took a huge dip in 2009, going so low, auto manufacturers weren’t sure how much longer they would stay in business.  The Ford brand was among them.  Now, the auto industry is breaking records in improved sales and investing the millions in dollars earned in research for new technologies.  Ford is celebrating the positive turn around with a new slogan.

Replacing “Drive One”, the new slogan “Go Further” encompasses Ford’s view to never give up, success is right around the corner – which they have proven.  It will also be used in Europe, replacing the Ford Europe slogan of “Feel the Difference”.  The slogan was inspired by Nike’s and McDonald’s slogan which have both proved to be great advertising successes.

Though some pessimists may think that a simple slogan can’t make a difference, Ford points to the Super Bowl commercials that have gained companies billions in revenue as proof something so simple, truly helps.

2013 Ford Escape Already Has Thousands of Orders

Even though the 2013 Ford Escape doesn’t hit showrooms until the end of May, Ford has already received around 8,000 orders for the new vehicle.  At only $23,295 for the base model, it’s no wonder why.

About half of the orders are for higher trim models such as the new Titanium trim which includes an EcoBoost engine, panoramic roof, sports-styled leather wrapped interior and unique 19 inch alloys.  The SEL is another higher trim model which includes the MyFord Touch infotainment system, bucket seats and heated exterior mirrors.  The base model only counts for 10% of the sales thus far.

The new Escape also continues Ford’s goal of introducing ever more fuel-efficient vehicles. The 2013 model comes with a choice of a 1.6- or 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, with direct injection and turbocharging to deliver power with the smaller and more fuel-efficient engine.  The the current 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine is still available, Ford predicts more consumers will choose the newer engines.

Ford’s MyKey Gains Popularity

For the 2010 model year, Ford released an innovative technology designed to help parents encourage safety of their teenage drivers.  This system, known as MyKey has been gaining popularity ever since.

Ford’s MyKey feature is now standard on nearly all Ford and Lincoln models and allows parents to program a key that can limit the vehicle’s top speed and audio volume.  The system can also be programmed to sound chimes at 45, 55 and 65 mph.

“Ford not only offers industry-leading crash protection and crash avoidance systems, we also are committed to developing new technologies such as MyKey that encourage safer driving behavior,” said Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering. “MyKey can help promote safer driving, particularly among teens, by encouraging safety belt use, limiting speed and reducing distractions.”

Ford To Offer Diesel Version of New Commercial Van

The new commercial cargo and passenger van for the Ford brand is set to release next year and will replace the current E-series and Econoline.  Though we don’t know any specifics of the new van, we do now that we’ll get to choose between a diesel engine and a regular gasoline-fueled engine.

This new van, called the Transit, will be the only large van available with a diesel engine in North America.  The last one was a diesel E-Series van from Ford, but stopped after the 2008 model year because of emission law changes.

In addition to the diesel engine option, Ford will also be offering a 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine with 6 cylinders.  This smaller direct-injection turbocharged engine will be combined with a lighter van for a 25% fuel efficiency improvement over the E-Series.

Kevin Koswick, Ford director of North American Fleet told media, “With fleet operators facing skyrocketing fuel prices and constant pressure to reduce costs, Ford continues to expand its range.”

Ford Gives Fusion Buyers More In Customized Choices

Ford has been looking for a way to gain the competitive edge with the new 2013 Ford Fusion, and decided the best way to do it is to give their customers more choices in their vehicle.  Who says every vehicle has to have the same concept or interior lighting?  Ford is thinking innovatively, as usual, giving their customers things they’d never thought to ask for.  Way to go, Ford.

Among other things, 2013 Ford Fusion buyers will get to choose what color LED lights don the interior of the new car.  The Ice Blue color has ben chosen as the signature color, but owners will get to choose from seven different colors and even change the color intensity.  The other colors are blue, purple, orange, red, white and green.

Michael Arbuagh, Chief Interior Designer for Ford says of the lighting color choice, “Consumers are usually surprised by the variety and enjoy the ability to choose.  I believe it’s a competitive advantage.”
